Despite the late night last night, I only slept until 8:50 or so (less than 8 hours), but we had to return to NY today, and I didn’t want to sleep away the morning.
So up I got. Even then, I was the last one to arise. The boys were playing Titan Fall on XBox and Rochelle was hanging out with them in the loft.
That gave me an opportunity to set up a little surprise for the family. I whipped up some waffle mix (actually pancake mix) and heated up the waffle maker. I set the table and got out some glasses and then called everyone down. I got them to come down very quickly because I asked who would like to have a ‘make your own waffle’ breakfast.
They were so excited!. Jordan went first. He dumped what I thought was going to be too much batter on the iron, but we let it roll. He closed the top and we waited about 2 ½ minutes because that is the amount of time that Jordan remembered us waiting when we made our own waffles at the Comfort Inn at the South Jersey Classic baseball tournament that never happened.
And that seemed to be the perfect amount of time, because when he peeked inside, the waffle was done to absolute perfection.
Jake followed, and his waffle too, was perfect. They were so happy with their creation and they were ecstatic with the taste and consistency as well.
I had already eaten breakfast and Rochelle said she didn’t want any, but since there was enough batter left, I made one more waffle — same process, perfect waffle. And then Rochelle and I got together to devour this one despite our prior attestations.
Mmmmm. mmmm. It was fantastic. I can see this breakfast becoming much more regular in the ball household, for sure.
After that, we went outside again. The boys had completed their homework, and we just wanted to play.so some baseball here, some XBox there.
Rochelle was with Jordan as he gave her a tutorial in XBox Minecraft. I stepped up to play some Titanfall with the boys, and that was extremely fun as well, despite my boys riding me the entire time for my inferior gameplay.
But even then, it eventually came time to pack up to return to NY. We were out the door by 3:00 or so. We took time to stop by the batting cage for a few swings, stop by the gas station for coffee (we filled up on gas at BJ’s yesterday), and then stopped at Wendy’s to get the boys some grub. I also picked up a small chocolate Frosty for the family to share.
The ride home was smooth and fairly quick given the time of day on a Sunday that we were heading back into the city.
And once we were unpacked back in our NY home, I did something that was perhaps a very low probability action at the time. I went for a run in Central Park. It was after 7:00 and very cold outside, but I thought there would still be quite a few die-hard runners keeping the park populated.
I was wrong. The park was empty. Seems people found something else to do besides take a freezing Sunday night stroll through Central Park. Even so, I kept to the well lit areas and kept moving quickly. I returned home safely, happily, and healthily some 45 minutes later.
From there, we had some baked mac n’ cheese that Rochelle made with Jordan. We snuggled up to watch a couple of classic Simpsons episodes and then it was off to bed.
What a great weekend.
Love and hugs.
